2.23.2002 - AFI's been
hard at work in the past few months, and much news has passed, and
still brews. Most notably is the major label frenzy that swarmed
about AFI starting over the summer. Now that the dust has settled,
it's looking like AFI has settled on Dreamworks. This will obviously
open up many opportunities to them and set them on a path that they
never dreamed of being possible until now. It's still unclear which
label they'll be releasing their upcoming album under, however work
is underway on their next full length. Expect it before the end
of 2002.
The fan club known as "The Despair Faction"
is also under way. Special bonuses for it's members are in development
and it's looking like it will be a very worthwhile thing to join.
While you don't hear too much about the DVD, that
has been in production for some time now, anymore.. it is safe to
assume that it's still alive. Also in the merchandise realm, keep
your eyes open for some very cool new things that should become
available soon. I can't say what but I bet you'll like 'em.
Finally, I have an interview with Davey Havok lined
up for the third issue of my cut and paste zine "A New Breath".
A New Breath - Issue 3 should be out
in early April, or the end of March. As soon as it becomes available
I will let you all know.
Each issue is $1 plus $1 for shipping. Up to 4 zines
can be shipped for a dollar, so load up on your order!
Issue One -
All Bets Off
Scissorhands
Labrats
Animosity
Dead in the End
This is the first issue, and features 5 interviews
with local Bay Area bands. You might have seen Scissorhands and
All Bets Off back in October when they played with AFI for the Haunting
of the Bay shows.
Issue Two - (in final
production stage - printing weekend of March 1st/2nd/3rd)
BANE
S.E.E.D.
240
For The Crown
The Damage Done
This issue's gonna be pretty hardcore. BANE is of
course the intense hardcore band from Mass. featuring members of
Converge. Definitely give them a listen, I can tell you, from my
interview with singer Aaron Bedard, that these guys are sincere
and deserve you support. S.E.E.D. is another Bay Area band that
really suceeds in their attempts to break barriers with their music.
240 is a Richmond, CA based metalcore band with some talent - the
interview is with bassist Annie No. 5. FTC and TDD are both up and
coming bands with an old school sound. I'm backing both these bands
whole heartedly and urge you to check them out.
Until next time... Thanks for checking out blacksummer.com.

9.20.2001 - AFI's been stuck in Japan in the wake
of the terrible tragedy that struck America on September 11th, 2001.
However, they'll be home in time to pick up the tour and hopefully
make it up to the fans who missed out.
AFI has also begun work on new material for their
upcoming full length. It's still early to speculate, but a spring
release is likely.
Site News:
10.28.2001 - I mentioned, earlier in the news, that I'd have a few
updates for the site in the coming week. I know that there hasn't
been much to say lately, so I'm really excited to introduce some
new content.
9.20.2001 - In case you haven't noticed, the site
has a new name and has been given an aesthetic overhauling. Send
me your comments,
or post in the guestbook,
please and thank you!
Nothing within the site is working just yet, but I
just wanted to get something up, so that you guys didn't forget
about little old me.
